A difficult weekend for team Pedercini in Monza.
Good weather conditions today in Monza for the second races of the Italian Superstock 1000 and Superbike Championships after yesterday’s rain. In the Superbike race both Borciani and Faccietti started from the fifth row of the grid in today’s 14 lap race. Having made a quick start, Borciani moved up to an impressive sixth position but was unfortunately forced to end his race half way through when he suffered some technical problems. Faccietti also made a strong start but during the fifth lap he made a mistake at the first corner of the circuit which caused him to lose some positions and finish the race in twelfth position.
Superbike - Race: 1) Baiocco (Ducati) - 2) Conforti (Ducati) - 3) Polita (Ducati) - 4) Mandatori (Aprilia) - 5) Sandi (Ducati)........12) Faccietti (Kawasaki) Ret Borciani (Kawasaki)
Marco Borciani: “I’m disappointed with today’s result because my start was very fast and I was able to make up a lot of positions. Unfortunately after only a few laps I began to feel chattering coming from the rear wheel and I lost contact with the leading group. It was the same problem I had already suffered during qualifying and practice. I tried to maintain my position but without warning the engine died and I was forced to retire from the race. I know my team will work to solve these problems and I’m confident for the next race in Misano.”
Fulvio Faccietti: “ I’m pretty satisfied with my performance today as I was able to end the race and obtain some points which are important for the championship standings. After a quick start I was fighting in the second group of riders but unfortunately I made a mistake at the first chicane and lost a lot of positions. Considering the problems we have had during qualifying, I’m happy with final twelfth place and I am looking forward to the next race. I want to thank all my technicians for their hard work.”
Mixed results today in Monza for team Pedercini’s Superstock riders. Second row starts for Staring and Mercado while Bussolotti started from the row behind. A very strong quick start for Mercado put him up in third place during the first laps of the race. Staring and Bussolotti followed the Argentinian respectively in seventh and eighth position. All three riders fought in the leading group but unfortunately Mercado crashed at the first chicane during the last lap, ending his race in the gravel. Staring closed in sixth position with Bussolotti just behind him in seventh.
Superstock 1000 - Race: 1) Zanetti (BMW) - 2) Magnoni (BMW) - 3) Barrier (BMW) - 4) Petrucci (Ducati) - 5) Perotti (BMW) - 6) Staring (Kawasaki) - 7) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) Ret Mercado (Kawasaki)
Bryan Staring: “I’m really disappointed because today we missed out on a good opportunity to obtain a better result. I also lost a lot of time through the Arcari chicane because this was my first time riding at this circuit and it was not so easy to understand it. Sixth position is not a bad result but I’m sure I can do better starting with next week’s Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race. We must modify something with regard to the set up of my bike to be able to fight for the podium.”
Marco Bussolotti: “It’s really incredible but again today (it happened already during yesterday’s qualifying) a stone broke the radiator of my Ninja and in the last few laps my engine was not working properly due to its high temperature. My start was pretty good and I fought in the leading group waiting until the last laps to overtake some riders and reach the front three. Considering the problem I had with the radiator, seventh place is a good result, but I hope to be luckier in the next Superstock FIM Cup race here in Monza.”
Leandro “Tati” Mercado: “It was my fault. During the last lap I wanted to overtake the riders in front of me and I entered the first chicane too fast. I lost the front wheel and I crashed, fortunately without any physical consequences. I’m really sorry for my team because they worked very hard over the whole weekend. I hope for better results in the upcoming races.”
