October 15 2011 - Team Pedercini - Portimao SBK STK Qualifying 2
Second day of qualifying in Portimao for team Pedercini’s Superbike riders. Today was another dry day with high temperatures at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. Mark Aitchison was fast all day and spent the morning qualifying session fine tuning the set up of his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R for the tomorrow’s twenty-two laps races. He finished the morning's qualifying session in eleventh place (1’43”508), reaching the Superpole. The Aussie rider unfortunately crashed during the first Superpole session and for this reason he was not able to improve on his best lap time (1’44”078). He reached the sixteenth position, missing out on the second session of the Superpole. Teammate Santiago Barragan continued his Superbike apprenticeship. The Spanish rider improved on his best time set yesterday by more than one second but he obtained only the twenty second position, missing out on the Superpole. In afternoon free practice Barragan continued to work with his team ahead of tomorrow’s races. Sixth row for him and fourth for Aitchison in tomorrow 22 laps races.

Santiago Barragan: “From the very first session this morning I felt much more comfortable on my new bike. Unfortunately we lost a lot of time during the qualifying session due to some technical problems. I still have some trouble in certain corners and this afternoon I tried to push anyway but unfortunately I crashed without any physical consequences. My pace is pretty good if we consider that this is only my second day in Superbike. Tomorrow I look forward to a good start because I know that in Superbike the first race laps are very important. The team is doing a great job considering the little time we’ve had and I’d like to thank all of my technicians for their great help”.
Mark Aitchison:”Today has been a little strange for me in Portimao. The day started well in qualifying. I found a good feeling with the bike and I managed to improve my lap time and position. We then focused on the afternoon session to find some more race consistency. In Superpole I made a small mistake by running wide into the first corner on my fast lap and unfortunately slipped off the bike. That sort of wrecked the Superpole stage of qualifying for me, but I will head out in warm up to confirm our race setup and tyre choice. The bike is working well enough when we have grip so we just need to
evaluate the conditions and make the best decision for tyre choice”.
A dry track and sunny conditions today at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao for the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup free practice and qualifying sessions. Marco Bussolotti: “I’m really disappointed with my today’s qualifying session. This morning I felt a little bit better on my bike while this afternoon I did not find the same feeling and near to the end of the qualifying a lost some time in my fastest lap and I obtained only the fourteenth position. I’m not satisfied with my result but my race pace is pretty good. Tomorrow I’ll start from the fourth row of the grid and it will be a difficult race but I’ll try my best to obtain a good result.”
Brian Staring: “I’m happy with my qualifying’s results. After a long hard year I’m really very happy because this afternoon I reached the seventh position and the second row of the grid. We still have some problems to solve to improve my bike’s set up but I’m confident for tomorrow race and I’ll try my best to reach a good result in the last race of the season to thank my team and my sponsor”.
Leandro “Tati” Mercado: “Unfortunately today I cannot find the right feeling with my bike and I can’t push hard enough to improve my lap time and because of this I’m really disappointed for my today’s result. We still have some set up problems to solve and we will try to make a better race setting tomorrow in warm-up, to give me better feedback. Anyway I will be trying absolutely my best for the last race of the season, although I expect it to be very tough tomorrow.”
