October 02 2011 - Team Pedercini - Magny Cours SBK STK races

A dry track and sunny conditions today in Magny Cours for the twelfth round of the World Superbike championship and the ninth round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup. Fourth row for Mark Aitchison and fifth row for Roberto Rolfo in today’s two 23 lap Superbike races. In the first race unfortunately Aitchison crashed in one of the first curves ending his race in the gravel. Rolfo’s start was pretty fast but as the race proceeded, the Italian rider was not able to increase his pace and during the sixteenth lap he was forced to re-enter the box due to some tyre problems. Team Pedercini’s technicians were able to change the rear tyre very quickly and Rolfo rejoined the race ending in thirteenth and last position. In race two Aitchison was forced to end his race after only four laps due to some technical problems. After a good start Rolfo lost some positions in the first laps but with a good race pace he was able to pass some riders. Unfortunately close to the end of the race Roberto lost the front wheel and crashed.

Superbike – Race 1: 1) Checa (Ducati) - 2) Melandri (Yamaha) – 3) Haslam (BMW) – 4) Camier (Aprilia) ….. 13) Rolfo (Kawasaki) …. Ret) Aitchison (Kawasaki)

Superbike – Race 2: 1) Checa (Ducati) – 2) Haga (Aprilia) - 3) Camier (Aprilia) – 4) Laverty (Yamaha) – 5) Haslam (BMW) ……. 9) Aitchison (Kawasaki) ..… Ret) Rolfo (Kawasaki)

Roberto Rolfo: “Race one was conditioned by the pitstop I had to make to change the rear tyre. We had chosen the same soft tyre that we had used in race two, but in race 1 it wore out and I wasn’t able to ride. I had to come back to the garage and change tyre to close the race in thirteenth, and last, position. In race 2 I made a good start but then made a small mistake that caused me to lose ground. I tried to catch back up and found a good rhythm with which I passed Berger and Fores. Unfortunately I then lost grip at the front and crashed before the end of the race.”

Mark Aitchison: “Well what can I say about the day in Magny Cours? In the first race, just after the start, I had a monumental slide from the rear tyre and it launched me from the bike. I really had no warning from the tyre which made me crash quite heavily. It really felt like all the wind had been knocked out of me and after we found a small fracture in my ankle, from some X-ray. My tailbone was also in quite a lot of pain. After resting for some time I decided to try to race the second race. I didn’t feel so well but I thought that I must try in any case. In the beginning I started well and my rhythm was coming until I had problem with the gear box. I lost fourth gear, then fifth gear and after the engine stopped, so I had to retire. It was a very difficult day but I know we can bounce back in Portimao”.

Today was sunny at the Nevers-Magny Cours circuit today for the Superstock 1000 warm-up and race. During Friday and Saturday practice all three Pedercini riders struggled with traction problems. Marco Bussolotti started the 14-lap race from the third row, while Bryan Staring and Tati Mercado lined up on the fourth. In the first laps of theì race Staring was in twelfth position while Bussolotti and Mercado followed in thirteenth and fourteenth place respectively. As the race proceeded Staring and Bussolotti found a good rhythm, recovering some position. During the last lap, in the last chicane, Bussolotti was able to pass Staring and Savadori to reach a solid ninth place. Eleventh position for Staring while Mercado reach the points zone only in the last lap, ending in fifteenth position.

Superstock 1000 – race: 1) Petrucci (Ducati) – 2) Zanetti (BMW) - 3) Barrier (BMW) – 4) Canepa (Ducati) – 5) Giugliano (Ducati)…. 9) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) …… 11) Staring (Kawasaki)……..15) Mercado (Kawasaki)

Marco Bussolotti: “My start was not so good but I quickly found a good rhythm that allowed me to recover a lot of positions. In the last part of the race I fought with Savadori and Staring and in the last chicane I was able to pass both of them reaching ninth place. It was a nice race and I think we obtained the best possible result. I want to thank the team for their great job over the weekend”.

Brian Staring: “My start was pretty fast but in the first laps I fought with a lot of riders and in particular with Antonelli and we passed each other many times. I’m happy with the race despite the fact that I made contact with Savadori on my final lap and my teammate Bussolotti passed me. In any case I’m satisfied with my eleventh place and I want to thanks my technicians because my bike today was working very well”.

Leandro “Tati” Mercado: "My race was difficult today mainly because after making a good start, I felt some problems coming from the clutch and I lost some positions. Starting from the first few laps I suffered also from a lack of grip on the rear tyre. I tried to recover positions and only in the last laps was I able to pass some riders, reaching the fifteenth place and taking one point for the championship”.
