August 31 2011 - Team Pedercini - Nurburgring SBK STK preview
The tenth round of the Superbike World Championship and the seventh round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup will take place at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany over the weekend of September 2/3/4. The Nurburgring, known simply as "the Ring" by enthusiasts, is the name of the famous motorsport race track. The construction of the original Nurburgring track began in September 1925 and the track was completed in spring of 1927 around the village and medieval castle of Nurburg in the Eifel region. Primarily due to its extraordinary length of over 22 km and the lack of space due to its situation on the sides of the mountains, the Ring was unable to meet with ever-increasing safety requirements and in 1981 works began on a new 4.5 km long circuit which was built on and around the old pits area. The new Nurburgring was completed in 1984 and was built in accordance with the highest safety standards.
Circuit main characteristics:

After the month long summer break, the World Superbike Championship returns this weekend, to Germany’s historic Nurburgring, where Team Pedercini riders Mark Aitchison and Roberto Rolfo will be aiming to run at the front of the pack. After nine rounds, both Rolfo and Aitchison can reflect on their positive season, having found a good feeling with their bikes and team. The three Team Pedercini Superstock riders Mercado, Staring and Bussolotti arrive at the German circuit with two objectives: firstly to return to a positive note and, secondly, to finish in the top five in Sunday’s race.
Roberto Rolfo: “The Nurburgring is a track that I don’t know very well. I have only raced here in 2008 in Superbike and I was not in a good physical condition as I had a broken collarbone. To tell the truth I do not really like it because I find it a little old and updates made recently have made it more suitable for the cars. Having said that, I would add that the ups and downs, particularly in the second section of the track, are very exciting. There will be some grip issues I think as the asphalt is not so good. We hope at least that temperature will be good because we're in the north of Europe, in a forest area where cold winds are common. During the holidays I have trained a lot and I feel fit, I can’t wait to rev my Kawasaki and do some slides”.
Mark Aitchison: "I am very much looking forward to getting started in Germany and embarking on this final stage of the 2011 season. After some time off during the summer break I know I am feeling refreshed and motivated and want to turn my hard work during the beginning of the season into positive results. I think my team needed some rest during this period as well, so I think we will be ready to take advantage of the upcoming races. The Nurburgring circuit is actually one that I enjoy a lot, and I believe it lends itself to my riding style, so let’s hope the weather is favourable as well. My aim is to build on our momentum that we have developed in the last few races and then improve mine and the bike's consistency over race distance".
