July 30 2011 - Silverstone Qualifying 2
Warm and sunny conditions today in Silverstone for the second day of Superbike and Superstock 1000 qualifying. In the morning’s qualifying second session team Pedercini’s Superbike riders Mark Aitchison (2’05”925) and Roberto Rolfo (2’06”895) obtained the twelfth and twentieth position respectively. Both riders improved on their best times set yesterday but unfortunately Rolfo missed out on Superpole by less than a second.
During the final free practice session both riders were able to work with their technicians on the bike settings. Aitchison (2’06”486) reached tenth place while Rolfo (2’07”639) closed in twenty-first position. In Superpole Aitchison was able to reach the second phase with some very fast lap times but unfortunately didn’t reach the final phase of the Superpole as he only managed to take twelfth position in the second session. Third row for him and fifth for Rolfo in tomorrow’s 18-lap races.

Roberto Rolfo: "This morning in the final laps of qualifying I lost the opportunity to take advantage of the softer tyres and missed Superpole for less than one second. I’m satisfied with the improvements we have made on the bike’s setting and during afternoon free practice I also worked a lot with my team to improve my race pace. Tomorrow the races will be difficult for me, as I’m in twentieth position on the grid, but I will try to do my best, as always".
Mark Aitchison: "The second day in Silverstone has been a positive one. In the qualifying and practice runs I built a good feeling on the bike and improved my lap times plus my overall position. We were fortunate to enter the Superpole stage of qualifying considering how close the lap times were between the top sixteen. During the final stage of qualifying I felt quite good on the bike and I managed to progress through to the second phase. In the end I qualified twelfth and I am very happy with the result. Tomorrow I am looking forward to both our races; we will try to improve the bikes consistency overnight in preparation for tomorrow races."
Sunny and dry conditions today in Silverstone for the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup free practice and qualifying sessions. During morning free practice, Marco Bussolotti and Tati Mercado continued to work on various settings, while Bryan Staring was only able to complete two laps due to some technical problems with his Kawasaki. Bussolotti (2’11”250) was seventh and Mercado (2’11”431) followed him in ninth position, backing up yesterday solid performance. In the afternoon’s second qualifying session, a fantastic result for Tati Mercado (2’10”005) who reached sixth place and the second row of the grid for tomorrow’s race. Not a good qualifying session for Bussolotti and Staring. The Italian rider (2’10”990) was only fourteenth while Bryan obtained only the twentieth position. Fourth row for Bussolotti and fifth for Staring in tomorrow 10-lap race.
Superstock 1000 - free practice: 1) Giugliano (Ducati) - 2) Canepa (Ducati) - 3) Barrier (BMW) - 4) Zanetti (BMW) ........... 7) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) ........... 9) Mercado (Kawasaki) ........... 31) Staring (Kawasaki)
Superstock 1000 - qualifying 2: 1) Petrucci (Ducati) - 2) Giugliano (Ducati) - 3) Canepa (Ducati) - 4) Zanetti (BM) - 5) Barrier (BMW) ........... 8) Mercado (Kawasaki) ........... 14) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) ........... 20) Staring (Kawasaki)
Marco Bussolotti: "This morning I felt a little bit better also because at the end of the free session we made some changes and it resulted in a big improvement. This afternoon I did not find the same feeling with my bike that I had had this morning and I reached only fourteenth position. My race pace is pretty good and we’ll work on it tomorrow during the morning warm-up session. Tomorrow I’ll start from the fourth row of the grid and it will be a difficult race but I’ll try my best to obtain a good result."
Brian Staring: "I’m not happy with today’s results of course but technical problems hounded us in both the morning and afternoon sessions and so I didn’t have enough track time to be able to improve my position. I’m disappointed and it won’t be easy starting from the fifth row but I hope we can find the right direction in time for the races. All I can do is try my best to push and reach the points zone."
Leandro "Tati" Mercado: "I would say today has gone quite well. I’m pretty happy for my results and also about the set-up we found. I think it’s good enough for the full race. This afternoon I was able to slightly improve my best lap time, but also my pace for more than one second. This is really very important in view of tomorrow’s race. For the race I look forward to a good start I’ll try my best to reach a good result for me and for my team. They have done a great job during these last two days here in Silverstone".
