Fifth row starts for both of team Pedercini’s riders today at Monza for the fourth round of the Superbike World Championship. Due to yesterday’s difficult qualifying session, Rolfo started from eighteenth position and teammate Aitchison from twentieth. Roberto Rolfo hopes of a good result went up in smoke this morning after just a few laps of the race one when the Italian rider was forced to re-enter the box because of a technical problem. After a good start Mark Aitchison started to suffer for some rear grip problems and in the last lap he ran out fuel. Fortunately he was able to finish the race in seventeenth position. In race two Rolfo and Aitchison reached the points zone, obtaining respectively the thirteenth and the fourteenth places.

Superbike - Race one: 1) Laverty (Yamaha) - 2) Biaggi (Aprilia) - 3) Haslam (BMW) - 4) Melandri (Yamaha) - 5) Fabrizio (Suzuki) ..........17) Aitchison (Kawasaki) ........ RET. Rolfo (Kawasaki)

Superbike - Race two: 1) Laverty (Yamaha) - 2) Melandri (Yamaha) - 3) Fabrizio (Suzuki) - 4) Haga (Aprilia) .......... 13) Rolfo (Kawasaki) - 14) Aitchison (Kawasaki)

Roberto Rolfo:“ In the first race I was forced to retire because I was suffering from some set up problems and I was not able to ride my bike effectively, especially through the chicane and so I preferred to stop my race. For race two my technicians changed the setting and I soon found a better feeling with the bike. The rear grip was not sufficient enough to allow me to push and improve my race pace but near to the end of the race I was able to improve my lap times reaching the thirteenth position. I’m confident for the next races because the bike’s performance improved here in Monza and this is a difficult track for the Kawasaki which means that at the other circuits we can obtain better results”.

Mark Aitchison: “Today I have had a very difficult day in Monza. Both our races started well and I was hoping to move forward with the front rider, but after a few laps the grip level from the rear tyre decreased quite quickly. In the first race after our rear grip seemed to go away, I experienced some problems with the bike being nervous, causing some arm pump. I was able to manage this well enough but than on the final lap I also ran out of fuel. Luckily I was able to roll across the finish line in seventeenth position. During the second race we attempted to fix a few of our problems with grip by making some small modification to the bike. Unfortunately our situation didn’t really improve and I could not maintain a consistent lap time in the final six-eight laps. I would like to thank my team for all their hard work over the weekend and we will work hard to make the results I know we are capable of in Salt Lake City”.

The second race of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup took place today in Monza on a dry track. Team Pedercini riders Staring and Bussolotti lined up in the second row while Mercado started from the fourth. After a quick start, Staring suffered a high side, crashing during the second lap. Bryan was taken to the Clinica Mobile and after to the hospital but thankfully just for some tests. After four laps Bussolotti was ninth and Mercado behind him in tenth when the race was red flagged because of a big crash in the Biassono curve that involved Mercado and four other riders. Tati crashed at 240 km/h and was taken to the Medical Center for a series of test but fortunately the Argentinian rider did not suffer any fractures.
The race restarted with only one Pedercini rider: Marco Bussolotti. He unfortunately did not make a good start and closed the first lap in tenth position. With a fast race pace Bussolotti was able to recover some positions to finish the race in final seventh position, obtaining nine points which contribute to the championship standings.

Marco Bussolotti: “I’m not satisfied with today’s results because without the red flag I’m sure I could have reached a better result. My second start was not so good and I took a lot of time to overtake one Honda rider in front of me and so I lost contact with the first group of riders. I pushed very hard and made up some positions but during the last lap I lost a position due to a small technical problem. It was not a lucky weekend for me and for my teammates Tati and Bryan and I hope they will be fine soon”.

Leandro Mercado: “I was really unlucky. I crashed because of some oil on the track at a speed of 240 km/h. Now I’m feeling a lot of pain in my whole body but the Clinica Mobile doctors didn’t find any fractures and so now I must just rest and to look forward to the next race in Misano in June”.

Bryan Staring:” I did not understand why I crashed. I entered the second Lesmo curve and suddenly I had an high side crash. I’m actually feeling some pain on my back but the test didn’t found any fracture and fortunately I need only to rest”.

Superstock 1000 FIM Cup - Race : 1) Zanetti (BMW) - 2) Giugliano (Ducati) - 3) Magnoni (BMW) 4) Petrucci ......... 7) Bussolotti (Kawasaki) RET.Staring (Kawasaki) - RET Mercado (Kawasaki)
