October 04 2009 - WSBK and STK races- Magny Cours

Cold weather but dry track condition today in Magny Cours for the penultimate races of the World Superbike Championship. After his excellent performance in yesterday qualifying, David Salom started in fifth row from the twentieth place while team mate Luca Scassa lined up on the sixth row from the twenty second position. In race one after a good start and despite some set up problems, both team Pedercini’s riders were able to reach an excellent result. Scassa obtained the thirteenth place while Salom finished in fourteenth position. In race two Salom finished sixteenth while Scassa ended his second race prematurely because of an electronic problem on his Kawasaki ZX 10R.

Superbike – Race one : 1) Spies (Yamaha) – 2) Haga  (Ducati) – 3) Biaggi (Aprilia) - 4) Fabrizio (Ducati) – 5) Haslam (Honda) ……  13) Scassa (Kawasaki) – 14) Salom (Kawasaki)

Superbike – Race two :  1) Haga (Ducati) – 2) Biaggi (Aprilia) – 3) Rea (Honda) – 4) Spies  (Yamaha) – 5) Haslam (Honda) …….  16) Salom (Kawasaki) – RET Scassa (Kawasaki)

Luca Scassa  :” Race one was quite hard, because after a good start I reached a good position, but I was  struggling to find the right feeling with the bike and I was unable to find a good pace. Anyway I pushed very hard reaching the thirteenth place that’s my best results of the season. In race two we made a small change to the setting of my bike and I felt more comfortable on it. I was feeling good and I had secured a good position when I had to retire because of an electronic problem on my Kawasaki. I'm really disappointed about it but I am happy because in the first race I have taken three points for my championship standing”.

David Salom :”In race one my start was not so good and I lost  some positions also because of a lack of grip on my rear tyre. I had to push hard to reach the fourteenth place and I’m really happy because I obtained the first two points of my World Superbike championship. In race two my start was pretty good  and my bike was working better compare with the first race but I reached only the sixteenth final position. I’m happy of the results reached today and if I had a bit of better  luck we could have reached even better results. I want to thank my crew who has done such a wonderful job this weekend”.

Javier Fores reached the seventh position in today  second last Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race in Magny Cours while Ismael Ortega ended his race in twentieth place. Fores started today’s race from the second row in seventh position and team mate Ortega from the fourth row in fourteenth place. Immediately after the start Fores reached the sixth place but he founded very soon some problems on his Kawasaki’s rear tyres. Javier was notable to keep the sixth position ending in seventh place. Quite a good start for Ortega but also the young Spanish rider struggled with the front tyre and Ismael obtained only the twentieth final position.

Superstock 1000 race : 1) Berger (Honda) – 2) Simeon (Ducati) – 3) Barrier (Yamaha) - 4) Corti (Suzuki) ……7) Fores (Kawasaki) ….. 20) Ortega  (Kawasaki)

Ismael Ortega :  “My start was not so bad and I was able to recover  a lot of positions reaching the thirteenth place. Starting from the fifth lap I felt some vibrations coming from my front wheel, due probably to a faulty tire.  I couldn’t really chase the riders in front of me and the only thing I could do was try and finish the race. I’m really disappointed because this problem prevented me from getting a good position and some points for my championship standing”.

Javier Fores :“ I’m really disappointed because of my today’s result. I lost the third place in the Superstock championship standing because of my today’s seventh place. My start was pretty good but starting from the first laps I  found many problems with the rear grip and I risked crashing on several occasions while trying to stay with group. We need to understand why we struggled with the rear grip this weekend, because without this problem I’m sure we could have reached a better result today. In any case we made a good job during all this weekend and I’m now just eager to start the next race in Portimao”.
