September 27 2010 - Imola Qualifying 2
Cloud and rain today in Imola for the second day of the Superbike qualifying practice and the Superpole. Roger Lee Hayden and Matteo Baiocco started riding on a wet track in morning qualifying practice. Due to the wet track conditions, none of the riders were able to improve yesterday lap times. This afternoon Hayden crashed near the middle of the session but fortunately without any physical consequences. He confirmed his nineteenth position while Baiocco did not
enter the Superpole because of his yesterday twenty second place. After a profitable free practice session, Hayden faced the first wet Superpole of the season. The American rider was not able to reach the second phase ending in eighteenth position. Fifth row for him in tomorrow’s races. Baiocco worked with his technicians during the free practice session improving his bike’s setting. He’ll start from the sixth row in tomorrow’s 21 laps races.
Superbike qualifying 2: 1) Crutchlow (Yamaha) - 2) Lanzi (Ducati) - 3) Rea (Honda) - 4) Guintoli (Suzuki) .......14) Hayden (Kawasaki) ........15) Baiocco (Kawasaki)
Superpole: 1) Syke3s (Kawasaki) - 2) Smrz (Aprilia) - 3) Haslam (Suzuki) - 4) Scassa (Ducati) - 5) Lanzi (Ducati) .......18) Hayden (Kawasaki) ........22) Baiocco (Kawasaki)
Matteo Baiocco: "I’m really disappointed for my qualifying practice. I was really unlucky because I had some small technical problem with my first bike and I was unable to improve my yesterday best lap time because of the rain. Superpole was an attainable goal for me today and I know tomorrow’s races will be very difficult, starting from sixth row, but I’m still positive and I will look for revenge in tomorrow races. I’ll try my best to reach a good result."
Roger Lee Hayden: "I’m pretty happy for my today results. I entered the Superpole but unfortunately I was not able to reach the second phase. This is not an easy track and with today’s weather conditions it was really difficult find a good race pace. During the free practice. We tried a few different things and we definitely made some improvements. We are only a few tenths from the race pace and we will try again to improve a couple more tenths in tomorrow morning warm-up".
The Saturday Superstock 1000 free practice sessions commenced with grey, cloudy skies overhead in Imola with the distinct possibility of wet qualifying sessions later in the day. Chris Leeson and Danilo Petrucci spent their morning free practice on a track not completely dry, working through various machine settings. Petrucci reached the eight place (1’57”796) and Leeson the twenty fourth (2’03”440). Also qualifying practice began on a not completely dry track and Pedercini team riders were unable to increase their yesterday’s lap times. Petrucci obtained again the eight lap time (1’55”704) while Leeson ended in twenty fifth place (1’59”582). They’ll start respectively in fourth and sixth rows in tomorrow’s 12 lap race.
Superstock 1000 free practice: 1) Badovini (BMW) - 2) Berger (Honda) - 3) Barrier (BMW) - 4) La Marra (Honda) - 5) Baroni (Ducati).......8) Petrucci (Kawasaki)....... 24) Leeson (Kawasaki)
Superstock qualifying 2: 1) Badovini (BMW) - 2) Berger (Honda) - 3) Barrier (BMW) - 4) Antonelli (Honda) - 5) baroni (Ducati) ........8) Petrucci (Kawasaki) ........25) Leeson (Kawasaki)
Danilo Petrucci: "I was unable to improve my lap time because of the rain. The bikes were pretty good and we had a good set-up and a good pace. Tomorrow the race will be difficult for me, because of my thirteenth position on the grid, but I look forward to a good start and to remain somewhere in the first position. I will try to do my best as always".
Chris Leeson: "This afternoon I improved my best lap time for more than three second but it was impossible to improve my yesterday’s best lap also if today I had a consistent race pace. Near to the end of the qualifying I tried to push more hard but unfortunately I found a lot of traffic. Tomorrow I’ll start from the sixth row but I’m confident for the race because we have the pace to do well and I only hope I can make a good start".
