Warm and sunny weather today in Portimao for the last two races of the 2009 World Superbike Championship. Luca Scassa started from the fifth row of the grid while teammate David Salom from the sixth. In race one Scassa crashed a few laps after the start. He re-entered the box to repair his bike and rejoined the race. The Italian riders ended his race in fifteenth place reaching one point for his championship standing. A very good result for David Salom in the first race. After a quick start he was able to find a good pace and to end in thirteenth position, that’s the best result of the season for the young Spanish riders. In the second race Salom suffered a problem on his rear wheels and was forced to re-enter the box to solve the inconvenience. He rejoined the race ending in seventeenth place. In race two Luca Scassa obtained two more point for the championship standing, reaching the fourteenth final position.

Ben Spies is the 2009 Superbike World Champion.

Luca Scassa :”Yesterday I crashed during the first session of the Superpole with my number one bike and today I was forced to use the second bike. My second bike was not so good as the first one because we worked more on  number one bike during the practice. In race one I crashed after only a few laps. I re-entered the box to repair the bike and I rejoined the race reaching the fifteenth place. In race two after quite a quick start I found a good pace and I was able to obtain the fourteenth place. It was a positive weekend not only because I obtained three  points for my championship standing but also because we reached very good results during the Friday and Saturday practice and qualifying. I think it was a  good racing season for me and I would like to thank all the Pedercini team for their great job all during the season”.

David Salom :” I’m pretty happy with today’s races. In race one I was very aggressive during the first laps trying to reach the riders in front of me. Near the end of the race my rear tire started losing grip but I was able to end the race in a good thirteenth position. In race two my start was pretty good but after only a few laps I felt some vibrations coming from my rear wheel.  I couldn’t really chase the riders in front of me and the only thing I could do was to re-enter the box where my technicians solved the problem allowing me to end the race in seventeenth place. This was my last race of the season and so I would like to thank all the Pedercini team for their great job during this racing season”.

Javier Fores scored an excellent third place finishes in today’s last round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup at Portimao in Portugal. Fores got a nice start and was battling in the leading group throughout the race. During the last lap he was able to pass the rider in front of him and to reach his fourth podium of this excellent season. Ismael Ortega started from the eight row of the grid. Because of his difficult Friday and Saturday qualifying session, his bike set-up was not so good today and after a good start he ended in nineteenth position. First race in Europe for Chris Lesson. He started from the last row of the grid but in few laps he was able to find a good pace and his final twenty-second place is a nice result if we considered that it was the first experience for Chris in the Superstock 1000 Championship”.

Superstock 1000 race : 1) Simeon (Ducati) – 2) Corti – 3) Fores (Kawasaki) …..19) Ortega  (Kawasaki)…….. 22) Leeson (Kawasaki)

Ismael Ortega :  “I started from the thirtieth place on the grid and so I cannot say that I am happy with the result, but I have to be satisfied after the troubles we have had yesterday during the qualifying session. My start was pretty good and I found soon a very good rhythm. Near to the end of the race my rear tyre started to slide and I was forced to reduce my pace. This was a new circuit for me to learn and I found it difficult to obtain a good setting for my Kawasaki. As always my team helped me a lot and I’d like to thank them for their help also during the full season”.

Javier Fores :“I am very happy because I was able to pass Mahr in the last lap but I actually put a couple of good laps down in the last few laps. We worked very hard this season to achieve the goals we want to do with our team and I want to thanks all my technicians for their incredible job during all the season. I’m of course very happy with my third place in the race and also for the fourth place in the championship standing”.

Chris Lesson :”I am pretty happy for my race result. It was my first race in Europe and I worked the full weekend with Pedercini team to find the right set up for my Kawasaki and today the bike worked very well. I started from the last row but I was able to overtake a lot of riders and to end the race in twenty-second place that’s a good result if we consider that I saw this circuit for the first time only three days ago. I want to thanks all the Pedercini team for their great help and I hope to work with them also during the next racing season”.
