October 23 2009 - Portimao Preview

The fourteenth round of the HANNspree Superbike World Championship and the tenth round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup will take place at the “Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao, Portugal over the weekend of October
23/24/25. Designed to be one of the best and most modern circuits in Europe, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will benefit from the best conditions of safety and comfort both for drivers and the public. There are 64 different possible layouts of the circuit, including those that have already been approved by the FIA for Formula 1 and by the FIM for Superbikes World Championship races. The natural relief of the terrain enabled the creation of a unique circuit, with accentuated undulations, making driving a pleasure, since the curves and straights follow each other at an exciting rhythm with accentuated declines. For the public this characteristic will be spectacular, allowing a wide view from any stand.

Javier Fores – Superstock 1000: “Portimao it’s the last race of the Superstock championship and of course I want to reach a good results here not only for me, for my sponsor and for my team, but also to obtain the third place in the championship standing. I left Magny Cours not too happy with the race result, but now I’m glad to go to a track I don't know and learn the circuit, see how we get on and still be up front on Sunday”.
Ismael Ortega – Superstock 1000 :”I have never been in Autodromo Internacional do Algarve before and I’m eager to ride and get to know this new circuit. I’ve heard it is a very nice track and this is the kind of circuit that I like. I would like to end this racing season with a good result to thank my team and my sponsors for their great help”.
Luca Scassa – Superbike : “I’m ready for the last races of the year here in Portugal. I've raced at Portimao last year so I've had a start with the learning aspect of it. The way the Kawasaki ZX 10R is working I think it should be a good track for us. Portimao is a different track to what we've ridden so far in Imola and Magny Cours but I hope we can find quickly a good setup to reach good results position in Sunday’s races”.
David Salom – Superbike : “I’m very motivated because it will be the last race of the season and I’ll work very hard with my team because I want to reach a good result in Sunday’s race. This season we have all tried and worked really hard and we had both good and bad days. In Portimao I want to do the best possible for both me and for my team”.
